PDP and CPD should not have been so brutally separated. The reason for the difference holds: standard of evidence needed to build towards qualified status is different from ongoing career building or career maintenance in later years. We also need to note that members CPD may reflect other professional requirements (e.g.CEng or professional certifications) so we need to build some flexibility into the system - ideally not requiring members to retune data they have obligations to submit elsewhere.

This whole area needs to be aligned more to the needs of non-early careers people. CPD is vital, but maintaining records of CPD is not something a mid-career professional is going to do unless it's for a specific reason. For mid-career professionals, career recognition is received in other ways than CPD points, usually by getting a better paying and more satisfying job!
We need to be promoting the BCS awards system a lot more, making it clear what the benefits are and building a sense of 'career' pathways that are appropriate for mid-career professionals.
