CR030 - Member Group Event Attendance

Suggestion:

"Change systems and processes so that attendance at Member Group events can be electronically tracked. Such systems should be capable of highlighting repeat 'no shows' and leading to preventing such individuals booking (time limited) for future events."

While no-shows are costly and frustrating, we must be aware that this suggestion could lead to discrimination. Imagine people who say have caring responsibility that means they are frequently having to change their plans for ‘optional career events’ or who have jobs that demand changes in schedule. Unless the booking system also allows easy cancellation, this is just penalising people who are already under pressure.

I agree that attendance should be tracked systematically and electronically. I don’t see a great value in tracking just no shows, there are other ways to deal with the impact of no shows. That said, coupled with CR001 better data segmentation this might provide a good basis for improving events, their relevance and their marketing.

There will always be no-shows (in our case typically around 30% - 50%). This isn't impacting others who wish to attend. We MUST NOT penalise Members (and non-Members!) who book but don't turn up.
Better would be to simplify the webinar booking process. At the moment attendees have to register twice - with Eventbrite and then with GoToWebinar. We loose people at each step.
